Our Organization
The FIU Micro-Lenders formed in the summer of 2007, as a global outreach project to alleviate poverty using micro-loans, led by International Business students at Florida International University (FIU). The initative grew into a student organization and a 501c3 non-for-profit Florida corporation. In both generous individuals and businesses that caring about their stakeholders, we find partners wishing to join this fight with us.
The funds we receive via our sponsors and promotional efforts go towards small entrepeneurs who are trying to grow their businesses below the scope of most commerical financial services. Providing them these resources, helps develop the local economy, and change a world characterized by ultra-rich and ultra-poor. The stability of a growing middle class, and the strengthening of trust in microloans, fuel a wave of change that we are proud to be part of.
Also being part of FIU, means that our organization is able to look at education’s role in shaping global business. We wish to change the cirriculum of FIU’s colleges to include microfinance, and ensure graduates understand their ability and responsibility to improve the world around them.
